Bituminous hot casting compound for casting rails BITUFUG® SM is a bitumen-based rail casting compound with mineral fillers that can be processed hot
For casting existing longitudinal and transverse joints between rails and road surface
The durability of a rail encapsulation not only depends on the use of a perfect encapsulation compound and careful installation. A key factor in terms of durability is the condition of the rail substructure. A bad substructure causes the tracks to loosen over time and thus creates the conditions for the "pumping" that occurs later. With this known phenomenon, the rails can perform vibrations of 20 mm and more against the stationary stone material. The rails laid on a proper substructure also vibrate when driven on. The vibrations that occur must be absorbed by the casting compound. However, this only works if the joint width is appropriate. Experience has shown that joint widths of less than 20 mm and joint depths of less than 40 mm should be avoided. If the joint widths / joint depths are too small, the plastic deformability of the casting compound is exceeded, which inevitably leads to the compound tearing off the rails and the track. If there is a concrete substrate, the rail foot can be cast in with a rot-proof rail undercasting compound that can withstand high surface pressure and ensures smooth driving.
Melt the ingots slowly at a temperature of 165°C, stirring or tossing occasionally. The temperature can at times be up to 10% higher or lower. However, a temperature of over 200° C should definitely be reached.
The work should only be carried out in dry weather and at temperatures above 5°C. The material contracts as it cools. For this reason, the sealing compound must be installed with an overhang. Necessary recasting work should be done on the shiny, clean surface of the first cast.
Joint length (cm) x joint width (cm) x joint depth (cm) x density of joint compound (g/cm³) = consumption in grams
The consumption of the BITUSOL® coating is approx. 3% of the casting compound requirement
approx. 165° C
Density: approx. 1.25 g/cbm
